Do you own equipment that contains R22 refrigerant?
You may already be aware that the use of new R22 refrigerant was banned under the EU ozone regulation EC2037/2000 on December 31st 2009. However, recycled R22, for maintenance purposes, is permitted up to the end of 2014.
Recycled stocks of R22 refrigerant are already depleted, resulting in soaring costs of recycled R22 replacement refrigerant. With this in mind and to make sure you are compliant with the new legislation, now is probably the time to consider replacing any refrigeration or air conditioning system that operates on the R22 refrigerant and we can advise you on the options available for replacement of your air con systems.
The good news is that if you opt for replacement of your R22 refrigerant air conditioning system with an energy saving air conditioning system, then you may qualify for the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme run by the Government, with enhanced tax relief for investments in equipment that meets published energy-saving criteria. You can find out more information here.
Given the ECA scheme and the reduced energy costs of a new air conditioning system compared to your old equipment still utilising R22 refrigerant, you can expect your system to pay for itself within 3-5 years…so what do you have to lose?
